progress

The good news:

4200 / 4000 words. 105% done!

And I love this fic, it's becoming quite dear to me.

The bad news:

It's not done, I've got another unexpected 2,000 or 3,000 words to write. I don't know what the hell happened. It ran away from me.

Congratulations on the writing and especially the loving it!

Commiseration on the run away muses. **face-->palm** I hate it when they do that - on the other hand, those are usually the best stories.

**hugs**

PS - You are all making me feel terribly inadequate with those word counts, though. **hides**

The ones that run off from you generally are the most interesting ones, and perhaps the most loved.

Hey, you are fine. You've written long stories before. I have never written anything this long - ever. I didn't know I could do it.

Now that is something to look forward to at the big reveal! I take it you mean the AinA? *wonders*

Sending you good vibes, coffee and music to help the muses along!

[identity profile] red-lasbelin.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, lol, the AinA. Not the one that's running on the Silm site right now. Did you sign up?

Would you read it if it was E/G? *pokes*

I am doing both. Ardor and the SWG one. How could I resist?

Done? :)

No, I wouldn't! So I shall hope that it is not that pairing. It squicks me just like many people get turned off by incest or BD/SM.

If I might ask, why did you fb my Look of Love story? It was E/G, and very dear and close to my heart.

Exceptions exist in every case. It was sensually rich and a tapestry of colors.

I have read some stories that never fail to make an impression despite the characters involved.

I have a problem with sweeping generalizations, and I feel from observing your journal and conversations to others elsewhere that you make quite a lot of those in regards to E/G. If it is your squick, I understand, that's fine.

I personally do not enjoy incest fics. But I would not feedback a very well-done incest fic and then tell the writer that it squicks me a couple months after, which is what in effect you did.

I do find the bit about 'despite the characters involved' very offensive, as the fic is entirely about E/G, it would have looked very different if I had written another pairing. If you were reading with a mind to ignore the characters who disturb you, I feel you possibly missed the point.

" If it is your squick, I understand, that's fine. "

That's fine then. I do make opinions on the subject since it is the way I feel. It is one of those things about arts and literature. There are always exceptions to what is one person's personal view. I may not be right. I may even be terribly wrong in my view of things.

It wasn't my intention to be offensive. Just spoke what I thought, never meant to offend.

Perhaps I did miss the point.

I think there's a time and a place to say such things, and I was just taken back by the fact that you had said as much to me, someone you had fb'd for e/g.

Because squick for me in all my years of fandom has always meant something that was deeply upsetting or bothering, so one avoids it. Not just a dislike or preference.

So - odd to be told that, after a bit of fb from you previously.

Look of Love for me was very much about their relationship together and their love, and it was not a writing exercise, which I feel it would probably be if you took that part out of it, as I imagine it must have looked like to you as you read and tried to ignore characters that bother you deeply.

Analyzing this subject is not something I am very keen to do because of manifold reasons. But I believe that I was treated to some of the best E/G writers at LoM when I first came abroad fandom. Then I read not so outstanding fics that made me swear off the genre. I wanted to retain my first impressions of them. My interests diverged and I found myself at a point where the dislike hit an all-time low.

Just to clear the air, I have reviewed E/G fics before because I liked them. I did not attempt to take out the characters and read the story mechanically. At the time when I had reviewed your story, I believe it was April?, I still was reading the genre on my friendlist now and then. If I remember right, I was very curious about your writing style and characterizations because I hadn't read anything else of yours. We had just become acquainted and I read the story which happened to be the first one you posted after the friending if I am not wrong. I read it, I liked it, I liked your characterization. I remember I said all that in the feedback. It was honest and true.

3-4 months down the line, I find that my dislike might have turned into a squick. It is strange perhaps. It may be even wrong. But that doesn't mean that I think any less of the beautiful stories in the genre I have read.

Hoping that this helps.

I think we just have very different interpretations of the term 'squick'.

I'm sorry that you have such an intense dislike for E/G. It is a very, very diverse pairing, all depending on who writes it. Some good, some bad. In my own personal experience in fandoms, I have found that every pairing has that to say for themselves.

That's why I am confused at someone being squicked at a pairing, not just really disliking the badly-written ones. Because it's such a blanket statement over a subject that often has two completely different kind of stories all under the same pairing.

But you are of course, entitled to your opinion, and I would never tell you otherwise. Just expressing my confusion.

Is good! It's unusual to fall in love with an exchange fic. At least, in my experience. Lucky you!

[identity profile] red-lasbelin.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I've fallen in love with one. There are ones I've liked very much though.

Can wish me luck when it's done. :P

Send in the border collies to herd that thing! He he he.

I am looking forward to reading it! :)

Aww, thank you, Jane. Your comments on fics are always so thoughtful too.

I'm fresh out of border collies though.
